Food Harvest group meets next week

Carlow: The first meeting of the group set up to implement the Food Harvest 2020 strategy will be held next week.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Minister Brendan Smith, who will chair the group, announced the move at the Agricultural Science Association conference in Tullow, Co Carlow, yesterday.

He said one of its first tasks will be to consider, prioritise and drive the actions necessary to realise the full potential of this key indigenous sector.

Mr Smith said he intends to convene the group in other formations to allow farmers, co-ops and food companies to demonstrate their determination to contribute.
