Dairy Efficiency Programme to give farmers insight into cost control

DAIRY farmers will be given insights into controlling costs as part of the new €18 million three-year Dairy Efficiency Programme.

The Teagasc-led programme will offer milk producers technology and knowledge as Teagasc- trained facilitators provide training in efficient grassland management, breeding and financial management.

This training programme is being part-financed by unspent Single Payment Scheme funds.

The new programme will complement the modernisation goals of the milk quota trading scheme.

Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith said that the programme will be up and running as early as possible in 2010.
