200 jobs to be created as energy firm and recruiter reveal investment plans

Several hundred jobs are to be created across Ireland as a number of companies made investment announcements.

Energy firm Energia will create 100 new jobs within the next 12 months as it moves into the residential electricity and gas market.

The company, part of the Viridian Group, already has more than 65,000 business customers, and will take on staff in Dublin and Cork for its management, sales, marketing, and operational business.

Energia’s retail director, Gary Ryan, said: “Our current customers have been strong advocates of our business and we are delighted to provide them with this residential opportunity.”

Elsewhere, online recruitment website indeed.com is to create 100 jobs.

The company is to expand operations at its offices in the Dublin Docklands.

It has more than 600 staff worldwide.

At the launch of Indeed’s investment, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said: “Ireland is becoming the internet capital of Europe with companies like Indeed offering great opportunities to our passionate, highly-skilled workforce.”

Indeed has sites in more than 50 countries with more than 100m job-seekers finding and applying for posts through its systems every month.

Indeed opened its first Dublin office in March last year and has hired more than 100 employees.

Due to its rapid growth, Indeed has already expanded into larger premises in the Bloodstone building at Dublin’s Sir John Rogerson Quay. The company plans to double its workforce to more than 200 people in the next 12 months.

The investment has been supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

David Rudick, vice president, international, of Indeed , said: “Over the past 18 months Dublin has proven itself as the ideal location for a high-growth technology company like Indeed. Our Dublin HQ has given us an opportunity to tap into an incredible source of tech-savvy talent, both locally, from the rest of Europe and further afield.”
