Eircom has said it cannot say when a major phones problem which has affected hundreds of thousands of people will be fixed. Mobile and landline services for some businesses which use 1800 and 1500 numbers - as well as ISDN lines - have been down since just after 10am today.

Enda Kenny is facing two motions of no confidence over the findings of the Fennelly report. Fianna Fáil said the report showed Enda Kenny sacked Martin Callinan "in all but name" by sending senior civil servant Brian Purcell (secretary general of the Department of Justice) to his home.

Police in the North have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the murder of Kevin McGuigan. Police believe the killing of Kevin McGuigan (pictured) in East Belfast was a revenge attack by republican associates of former Provisionals commander Gerard “Jock” Davison, who was gunned down in May.

The Minister for Defence Simon Coveney is extending the Irish Naval Service mission in the Mediterranean. .

Police have detained a man amid suspicions that the blaze at an apartment block in Paris was started intentionally, officials have said.  Eight people have died in the blaze at the foot of the famed Montmartre hill.

An investigation has been launched after an NHS clinic mistakenly revealed the identity of almost 800 patients  The 56 Dean Street clinic in London’s Soho sent out a newsletter to patients on a group email, rather than to individuals.
