An official report has found that Enda Kenny did not sack the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan and that the former commissioner himself decided to retire of his own accord. But, the report from the Fennelly Commission has said that the decision to send a senior civil servant to Martin Callinan’s home was the "catalyst" for his retirement last year.

Fine Gael TD Sean Conlan has been released without charge this afternoon,after he was arrested in connection with an alleged assault at a Co Monaghan pub. The Cavan-Monaghan TD went to Castleblayney Garda Station by appointment this morning and made a statement.

Locals in Lavey in Co Cavan have said they are delighted that murder charges have been dropped against Aisling Brady McCarthy in the US. The 37-year-old (pictured), who had been working as a nanny in Boston, was arrested two and a half years ago after the death of a one-year-old girl who had been in her care.

Tánaiste Joan Burton has said she and Enda Kenny both agree that the Fennelly report needs to be published as soon as possible. .

There were 12 babies born to girls aged 15 and under in the first three months of this year, CSO figures reveal. .A further 16 girls aged 16 years also gave birth.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt revealed using Ian Madigan as a back-up scrum-half had been at the back of his mind since last season as he explained his reasoning for taking just two specialist number nines to this month’s World Cup. .Schmidt had sprung a surprise in his squad selection by naming just Conor Murray and Eoin Reddan for the campaign which starts on September 19 with a Pool D game against Canada.
