Unions have demanded that private sector workers receive a €1,000 pay hike next year. The call for a pay increase across the private sector comes as the Government hardened its stance around any renegotiation of public sector wages.

Ireland’s bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup may yet force the GAA to abandon its traditional slot  for that year’s All-Ireland football final.

Tipperary GAA chiefs have expressed disappointment that Semple Stadium has been omitted  from the stadia comprising Ireland’s 2023 Rugby World Cup bid, as TDs from the county are set to demand answers for its omission.

Ray Brady, former Ireland international, has passed away at the age of 79.  His brother Liam wrote about Ray in his Irish Examiner column only last Monday, noting with pride that Ray had played in the team which beat Austria 3-2 in a celebrated game at Dalymount Park in 1963, the last time Ireland beat Austria until Saturday night’s 1-0 win in Vienna.

Steven Gerrard is now considering the next stage of his career after his Los Angeles Galaxy contract was not renewed.  The 36-year-old’s departure was expected ever since the Major League Soccer club were eliminated from the post-season play-offs just over a week ago.
