A US woman who splashed acid in her face in a bizarre hoax was ordered by a Washington judge to stay at a mental health unit until her trial.
Bethany Storro, 28, admitted that she made up the story about the facial burns she suffered on August 30, putting drain cleaner on her face trying to kill herself or alter her appearance, according to police. She has pleaded not guilty to three theft charges.
The case drew national attention to the recently-divorced woman and brought in thousands of dollars in donations to help with medical bills. Storro’s trial will take place on December 20.
