WATCH: FBI investigates incident where officer dragged female student across classroom

An FBI investigation is underway after a female student was filmed being dragged by an officer across a classroom in South Carolina.

The Justice Department says it has opened a federal civil rights inquiry into the confrontation.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the inquiry is ongoing.

The pupil was being disruptive when she was tipped backwards out of her chair on to the floor on Monday afternoon.

The incident was captured by other students on their mobile phones.
