UN report calls for Guantanamo Bay closure

The United States should bring all Guantanamo detainees to trial or release them and shut the facility down, according to a UN report released today.

The report, summarising an investigation by five UN experts, called on the US government “to close down the Guantanamo Bay detention centre”.

It said the US “should refrain from any practice amounting to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment”.
