This pensioner survived nine days stranded in the Arizona wilderness

Running out of petrol when you’re driving in the middle of nowhere has to be one of THE scariest possible scenarios.

And that’s exactly what happened to 72-year-old Ann Rodgers in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona.

She survived by drinking pond water, eating plants and spelling out “help” on the ground with sticks, authorities said – along with some help from her dog.

Now, that’s definitely one very good reason to own a dog…

The Department of Public Safety said Ms Rodgers was suffering from exposure, but she was in fair condition and able to walk to and board a helicopter with little assistance.

After the helicopter found her, she was taken to a hospital in Payson for treatment and later released.
