Taliban shoot dead 35 road workers in eastern Afghanistan

Taliban insurgents have shot dead at least 35 workers and their guards on a road construction site in eastern Afghanistan, reports say.

Galaxy Sky construction company owner, Noorullah Bidar, said the attack happened in Wazei Zadran, a remote mountainous area in the eastern Paktia province.

He says it was carried out by more than 100 insurgents and that at least 35 workers were killed and 20 were wounded.

A government official said eight insurgents also died.

The attackers fled after stealing some trucks.
