St Louis Police officer shot in 'ambush' attack

A police sergeant is in a critical condition after being shot twice in the face in an ambush attack in St Louis, Missouri.

The 46-year-old, a 20-year veteran and a married father-of-three, is expected to survive the shooting and has been able to speak to other officers.

Police chief Sam Dotson said the officer was not involved in a call or a traffic stop but was sitting in traffic when another car pulled up alongside his marked vehicle.

The officer told police he heard at least two shots.

Officers are using helicopters, Swat teams and other resources in the search for the suspect.
