Shock as US postman murdered on mail round

A postman has been shot dead while delivering mail in Maryland.

Police called to a street in Landover, 10 miles from Washington DC, found the body of Tyson Barnette, 26. They are working to identify possible suspects and a motive for the killing.

US Postal Service spokesman Frank Schissler said it was rare for a postman to be killed while delivering mail. A postman was killed north of Houston, Texas, in May and in 2010 a delivery worker was shot dead in Miami, Florida.

The postal service is offering a US $100,000 (€73,800) reward for information leading to an arrest over the shooting.
