Seven killed in Bali bus crash

Seven people, including five Chinese tourists, were killed when a bus plunged into a ravine on the island of Bali, Indonesian police said today.

Traffic police chief Colonel Beno Louhenapessy said the accident happened near Pecatu resort area of southern Bali yesterday.

He said the bus’s engine apparently lost power while going up a hill and the vehicle then rolled backwards before plunging into a 49ft (15m) deep ravine.

The bus was carrying 13 Chinese tourists to Uluwatu, a popular destination which houses a sea temple.

Col Louhenapessy said two Indonesians – a tour guide and the driver – were also killed instantly. The other eight Chinese were all injured, some seriously, and were taken to hospital.
