Saudi woman jailed for driving

A woman driver who has defied Saudi Arabian laws on men-only motoring has been arrested for a second time.

Manal al-Sherif has been accused of “violating public order” and will be held for five days while the case is investigated.

She launched a campaign against the ban last week by posting a video on the internet of herself behind the wheel in the eastern city of Khobar.

Ms Al-Sherif was detained for several hours on Saturday by the country’s religious police, then held again the following day.

About 300 Saudi activists have signed a petition appealing to the Saudi king to set her free.
