Polls open in Syrian elections

Polls have opened in Syria's parliamentary elections today despite continued violence across the country.

The regime claims it shows President Bashar Assad is willing to pursue political reform.

The opposition is boycotting the vote, dismissing it as a farce and a ploy to stay in power.
