Police in England investigating a vicious robbery have praised the bravery of an 82-year-old woman after she gave chase to her attacker.
Detectives were called to Keynsham, near Bristol, on Friday after the pensioner had shopping bag snatched before being pushed to the floor.
Officers said the elderly woman suffered bruising to her arm and ribs as well as a swollen knee.
Detective Sergeant Simon Chubb said: “This was a shocking incident in which a vulnerable woman was pulled to the floor as her bag was ripped from her hands.
“The victim, who thankfully didn’t sustain any serious injuries, should be praised for the great bravery she showed during and after the robbery.”
Avon and Somerset Police said the incident happened at 8.10am in Tenby Road.
The suspect, thought to be a man in his teens or early 20s and who wore dark clothing, made off with the bag in the direction of Kelston Park.
Police said inside the stolen Marks & Spencer shopping bag was the pensioner’s purse which contained her bus pass, medication and a small amount of cash.
A force spokeswoman said: “The victim gave chase but lost sight of the suspect.
“Officers later recovered the carrier bag but the woman’s purse had been removed.
“We are now appealing for anyone who saw the incident or who have any information to get contact us immediately.”
