Police arrest airline crew member over alcohol smell

An airline crew member was arrested at Gatwick Airport after turning up to work on a flight smelling of alcohol, police in England have said.

The Corfu-bound flight's scheduled 9.10am take-off from the West Sussex airport was delayed on Monday because of the man's absence.

When the 45-year-old crew member eventually turned up at 10.40am, he smelled strongly of alcohol and was not allowed to board the plane.

Sussex Police said the man, from London, was arrested on suspicion of acting as a member of the crew of an aircraft while under the influence of alcohol.

He was bailed to September 8.
