Pirates seize Russian tanks

Pirates have seized a ship carrying 33 Russian tanks and ammunition off Somalia.

The Ukrainian vessel Faina was carrying "a substantial quantity of ammunition and spare parts," a spokeswoman for President Viktor Yushchenko said.

It was not immediately clear where the T-72 tanks were being sent, although reports said they had been sold to Kenya.

Russia said it sent a patrol ship from Russia's Baltic Sea fleet to the area.
