People shot near Texas university

Several people have been shot near the Texas A&M University campus, including law enforcement officers, police said tonight.

A suspect has been taken into custody.

College Station police spokeswoman Rhonda Seaton told CNN she did not know the extent of the injuries.

The university issued a warning on its website just before 12:30 pm warning of an active shooter near the campus football stadium, Kyle Field. Residents and students were told to avoid the area.

Ms Seaton said the shooting happened within a block or two of campus.

College Station lies about 90 miles (144 kms) northwest of Houston.
