Passengers stranded by pilots' strike

Thousands of passengers are stranded after pilots of India’s Jet Airways reported in sick in protest at the firing of two of their senior colleagues.

Airline spokesman A.K. Sivanandan said more than 100 of the 346 flights, both domestic and international, were cancelled today.

These included destinations like New York, London and Brussels.

A statement by the airline described the pilots’ strike as illegal.
