NASA believe comet has burned up on solar flyby

A comet, which astronomers hoped would light up the night skies for the next month, appears to have met a fiery end.

Comet Ison was expected to skim just 730,000 miles from the surface of the Sun yesterday, but NASA says it has not detected anything much emerging from behind the star.

The space agency thinks it was ripped apart.
