Murder probe launched after man's body found in burned-out car in Essex

A man's body has been discovered in a burned-out car in Essex, triggering a murder investigation.

Police called to Pincey Mead, near Pitsea Road in Basildon, shortly before 5pm on Saturday found the 30-year-old's body in a grey Audi A4.

Detectives are treating the death as murder and are appealing for witnesses to come forward, Essex Police said.

Detective Inspector Steve Ellis said: "This happened in a residential neighbourhood so I am hopeful someone will have seen or heard something.

"The vehicle has internal fire damage so I'm keen to speak to anyone who might have seen the vehicle or spotted anyone acting suspiciously in the area."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
