Man charged after woman found dead and man critically injured at house in Essex

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after the body of a woman and a critically injured man were found at a house in Essex.

Craig Bird, 31, of no fixed address, is accused of killing Colleen Westlake, 48, and is also charged with attempted murder of a 59-year-old man.

He will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning.

The victims were discovered by police responding to reports of an assault at a property in Chelmsford in the early hours of Sunday.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he received treatment for "serious life-threatening injuries".
