Man and two teenage girls die after lorry and car collide

Three people who died when a car and a lorry collided in England were a 43-year-old man and two 17-year-old girls, police said.

The occupants of a distinctive black Mercedes-AMG C 63 died at the scene of the crash in Fellside Road, Whickham, Gateshead, at around 2.20am on Wednesday.

The lorry driver was uninjured, Northumbria Police said.

The driver was local and the passengers were also from Gateshead.

Police believe the car may have been in the area of the Metrocentre earlier that night and officers have asked anyone with information to call 101.
