Gunmen hijack illegal immigrants in Greece

A police van full of illegal immigrants was hijacked by two gunmen in Greece, it has emerged.

The van, with about 50 people in it, had been discovered abandoned by its driver outside Athens last night.

As officers were taking it to a compound they were stopped by two gunmen in a car.

They took over the truck, with one driving it away and the other following in the car.

Police caught the second gunman, identified only as being of Iraqi origin, shortly afterward but they are still searching for the immigrants and the gunman who drove the truck away.
