Egypt's military-backed government quits

Egyptian state media is reporting the country's military-backed government has stepped down.

The Prime Minister says his cabinet has submitted its resignation to the interim president, ahead of elections in mid-April.

Defence minister and army chief Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is tipped to win, but had to formally quit before announcing his bid.
