Dozens feared dead after boat capsizes off Malaysian coast

A boat carrying about 100 people has capsized off the western coast of Malaysia, causing a number of fatalities, the maritime agency said.

Update: It has since been clarified that the boat was believed to be carrying 70 people, with 14 confirmed dead.

At least 12 people have been rescued but several bodies have been recovered, according to agency official Mohamad Hambali Yaakup.

He said the wooden boat, heading to Indonesia, capsized in bad sea conditions not far from the coast and rescue operations are continuing.
