Death-crash Haider was drunk

Austrian far-right politician Joerg Haider was drunk when he crashed his car killing himself, his spokesman admitted today.

He said Haider’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit when he crashed early on Saturday in the southern province of Carinthia where he was governor.

Police said his car was speeding at twice the limit.

The spokesman said he felt obliged to confirm widespread speculation that the former Freedom Party leader was intoxicated.
