A woman car passenger encouraged a male driver to mow down a group of pedestrians, a court heard.

Norfolk Police released CCTV footage of the hit-and-run incident earlier this year, which shows a car driving at a group of three pedestrians, striking one man and throwing him in the air.

The 30-year-old man suffered a broken pelvis and serious leg injuries following the incident in the Vicarage Street Car Park in North Walsham on July 23, police said.

Two suspects who were arrested and charged following the police CCTV appeal appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court.

Darren Blackmore, 43, is accused of being the driver and Sammi Horner, 35, is accused of being the passenger.

Miss Horner, of Market Place, North Walsham, is charged with encouraging or assisting the commission of an indictable only offence.

Wearing a short skirt and jewellery that clinked as she moved, she entered no formal plea but indicated a plea of not guilty.

She was bailed to appear at Norwich Crown Court on December 22.

Mr Blackmore, formerly of Cantley Lane, Norwich, appeared via videolink.

He is due to appear before magistrates by video link on December 8, when he will face charges of driving a Peugeot 307 dangerously, wounding Matthew Knowles with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempting to wound Lee Knights and Ashley Robinson with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
