Construction workers trapped in South African shopping centre collapse

Part of a shopping mall under construction has collapsed in South Africa trapping up to 50 workers inside.

The accident happened in Tongaat, near the eastern coastal city of Durban. Police said one person was killed and 26 othered injured when the roof collapsed

Rescue teams rushed to the scene to help workers who were trapped beneath the rubble, guided by sniffer dogs combing the area for survivors.

A spokesman for the emergency services said an “unconfirmed number” of 50 people were trapped inside.
