The leader of a failed coup in Burkina Faso is now in custody.
General Gilbert Diendere, who took power after a recent short-lived coup, is with the gendarmerie, according to the country’s defence ministry.
Diendere, who led the September coup and stepped down after about a week, had sought refuge at the Vatican Embassy after the army opened fire on his supporters on Tuesday.
Diendere earlier said he was willing to hand himself in. The government had said negotiations were under way for his surrender.
