BP in donation to Isaac-hit states

Oil giant BP says it will donate $1 million to support relief efforts related to Hurricane Isaac, which lashed Louisiana and Mississippi with flooding, rains and wind.

BP said the donation will be made to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army and divided equally between the two hard-hit states.

In addition to the donation, BP said it is also providing assistance to employees and their families in the region.

Two years ago, an oil rig operated by BP in the Gulf of Mexico exploded, causing a massive oil spill.

Millions of gallons of oil spilled into the Gulf over several weeks and affected coastal areas until the blown out oil well was capped.
