Border between Republic and Northern Ireland difficult issue says UK's Brexit minister

The UK's Brexit minister has said addressing the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland is one of the more difficult issues that needs to be addressed.

Ireland is being urged to highlight the importance of our relationship with Britain - with some German MEPs saying we should emphasise the danger posed to the Northern Ireland peace process by the UK's departure from the European Union.

Britain's newly appointed Brexit Secretary David Davis, has said EU migrants might not be able to stay in the UK if they arrived after the referendum result.

Mr Davis says the border between the North and the Republic of Ireland remains contentious: “One of our really challenging issues to deal with will be the internal border we have with Southern Ireland.

“We are not going to go about creating other internal borders inside the United Kingdom but, the aim here is to try and address the concern to basically remain people.”
