Baby survives apartment plunge

A woman holding a baby boy fell to her death from the eighth floor of a New York City apartment today- but miraculously the baby survived.

The 45-year-old woman was discovered by police still clutching the baby in her arms.

A police officer took the baby to hospital where he was said to be in a stable condition.

The baby is believed to be about 10 months old.

Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

They said the Manhattan window, which had no safety bars on the inside, was wide open, and there were no signs of struggle inside.
