Attack on second hotel in Burkina Faso

Officials in Burkina Faso say an assault is under way at a second hotel in the capital after Islamist militants killed at least 23 people at a hotel and cafe nearby.

126 hostages were freed as soldiers stormed the Hotel Splendid in Ouagadougou

al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for last night's attack.

Four militants, including two women, have been killed.

A witness from inside the restaurant described the scene: “We heard gunshots in the room and they started to fire at everyone, we just dropped to the ground.

“As soon as you raised your head they shot you immediately, you had to pretend to be dead, they even came to us and touched us with their feet to check if we were alive.

“As soon as they realised we were alive, they fired.”
