Angela Merkel calls for European unity

The German Chancellor has warned that her country will not shelter migrants who move for solely economic reasons.

Angela Merkel also says Germany cannot solve the migration crisis on its own.

The United States is to take around 15 thousand more refugees than normal next year.

The U.S. Secretary of State wants to accept 85-thousand in 2016, rising to 100-thousand in 2017.

John Kerry has not said how many will be from Syria but has confirmed that Washington is ready to help.

EU Ministers are still divided over plans to relocate 140-thousand refugees around the continent.

Meanwhile, 13 refugees including 6 children, have died after a boat hit another vessel and capsized off the Turkish coast.

46 people were onboard and heading towards Greece when it happened.

It comes as the LE Niamh rescued 125 people in the Meditterranean today.

They have saved nearly 4,000 people since arriving in the area in July.
