100mph 'super typhoon downgraded as it approaches Japan

A 'super typhoon' which had threatened huge disruption in southern Japan has been downgraded.

Up to 100,000 people are still being encouraged to leave their homes on the Okinawa islands, though.

There are reports of 45ft-high waves and winds of well over 100 miles an hour.
