Staying secure at home

Staying secure at home

Security devices for the home keep getting easier to use and install with innovative products like the Ezviz Full HD Indoor PT Security Cam.

Featuring 1080p video and the ability to pan and tilt to provide a full 360-degree field of view makes this a great option for those who want to easily keep track of their home while away.

There’s not too much to the setup which is done via the free Ezviz app (there’s also a PC app).

During the installation process, the app will walk you through step-by-step in getting you connected to your home WiFi.

There’s also a hard-wired option via an ethernet port.

For testing, I placed my test unit in a hallway where I had a full view of stairs and entrances.

Using the app, I was able to see exactly what is happening inside my home.

You can install up to four cameras and the app will go into split-screen to allow you to see all four streams.

The image is full HD and the quality is excellent, especially when there’s good light, but there’s also night vision that will work in the dark.

The camera has a built-in loudspeaker and mic, so you can see and hear what’s happening.

There’s also a two-way, walkie talkie type option to have a conversation with somebody on the other end if necessary.

The camera has an auto-tracking feature and follows motion across the area it covers. For privacy, you can use the app to put the camera into sleep/privacy mode.

To use the app you need to create a free account and you can allow other users to have access to the camera too.

You can also install the unit to a ceiling (hardware is provided) and this provides an even better 360-degree view.

You can use the app to control the camera using the pan and tilt option. This works well and with about a second of a lag and allows you to literally look around a room.

The camera also supports a MicroSD card, but it took me a while to figure out where the slot was.

It’s hidden below the camera lens and you have to rotate it up to gain access to the slot. It supports up to 256GB of storage.

Cloud storage options cost €50 for a year with seven-day backup or €5 for a month. If you need a 30-day backup, that will cost you double.

The Ezviz Full HD Indoor PT Security Cam is excellent for what it does and the price is good for what you’re getting.

I love that it has local storage and the flexibility of a cloud subscription if you need it.

This is a good option for those who want to keep an eye on an elderly person living at home, teenagers, or making sure your pets are okay.
