Wincanton meet frozen off

This afternoon's high-profile meeting at Wincanton has been abandoned due to a frozen track.

With the course already waterlogged in places on Friday, clerk of the course Barry Johnson announced an 8am inspection due to an unfavourable forecast.

Temperatures plummeted to below minus 4C overnight and Johnson has been left with little option but to call off the card, which had been due to feature Champion Hurdle winner Punjabi in the Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle.

"Unfortunately we've had to abandon as temperatures got down to minus 4.5C overnight and it is still minus 3C at the moment," said Johnson.

"The sun started to come up but the cloud is coming in now and we've got no chance."
