Whelan and Sammon to start; Wilson a doubt

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has decided to start Glenn Whelan and Conor Sammon against Austria tomorrow night in their World Cup qualifier in the Aviva.

Sammon replaces Ireland captain Robbie Keane who is out with a calf injury, while Kevin Doyle has to be content with a place on the bench.

As expected, Whelan comes back into midfield after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out of the Sweden game on Friday.

Trap has included Marc Wilson at full-back, but has revealed that the Stoke defender is currently struggling with a groin injury and has placed Stephen Kelly on stand-by to come into the team if necessary.
