WATCH: The Simpsons predicted the FIFA scandal

But the writers still have a keen awareness of what’s going on in the world - and proved it in the episode “You Don’t Have to Live Like a Referee” aired in March 2014.

Corruption, bribery and the arrest of high-ranking officials - it all looks very familiar after this week.

Ok, it didn’t come as a huge shock to any of us, but The Simpsons called it ages ago!

They would like it put on the record that they also predicted Germany as the eventual winner of World Cup 2014.

Forget Coach Lasso, Homer Simpson is the real American soccer aficionado.
