VIDEO: Rory McIlroy looks very close to a comeback

Rory McIlroy has heightened speculation that he is close to a return to the golf course - by posting a video of himself on Instagram looking very much back on his feet.

The World No. 1 missed the chance to defend his Open title last month, after spraining ankle ligaments during a kickabout with some friends.

There have been hints in recent days that McIlroy was recovering well, so much so that he might be able to participate in the final major of the season - next week’s US PGA Championship.

Fans of the 26-year-old will be encouraged by this video he posted on Instagram in the last hour.

McIlroy captioned the clip: “Working hard every day to come back stronger #dontmindthegrind”.

The PGA Championship gets underway at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin on Thursday August 11.

McIlroy is the reigning champion and has reportedly booked a practice session at the course over the weekend.

Looks like we may see the Holywood golfer back in action a lot sooner than initially expected.
