UK Sports Minster in dire sports quiz fail

Call us old fashioned but once upon a time you’d have to at least have a passing notion of the job you applied for to get the position.

In Britain it seems the new Minister for Sport Helen Grant had no such worries having breezed into the position without the faintest notion of anything sport-related.

On a visit to her local Maidstone constituency in Kent, the newly appointed MP was stumped by a series of pretty basic questions, including who the current FA Cup holders and the Wimbledon women’s champion are.

Despite trying to wriggle out of her embarrassing situation by leaning on Andy Murray’s victory, we think it’s quite a poor showing.

"I wasn't told there was going to be a quiz on Saturday night. If I'd known I would have done some proper revision. My sports pub quiz knowledge may not be encyclopedic but I understand the positive impact that participating in sport has on people's lives," she reportedly added once the cameras were off.

While Marion Bartoli has had to retire due to persistent back problems, Wigan languish in mid-table Championship obscurity and Chris Robshaw suffered the ignominy of missing the Lions tour, it seems those poor souls just can’t catch a break at the moment.

Don’t worry though guys, we know who you are and what you’ve done!
