Toffees confirm Heitinga deal

Everton have completed the £6m signing of defender Johnny Heitinga from Atletico Madrid.

The Holland international arrived at the Toffees’ Finch Farm training ground last night and the formalities of the deal were completed 20 minutes before the summer transfer deadline closed.

Heitinga, whose fee could eventually rise to £7m, has signed a five-year deal.

He offers manager David Moyes options in the centre and right of defence.
