Championship-chasing jockey Paul Townend looks like missing the last few days of the Irish jumps season due to the recurrence of a collarbone injury.
Townend, who led Davy Russell 80 to 75 at start of play on Wednesday, was back in the wars in a fall from Mr Thriller in the Growise Champion Novice Chase on the opening card of the Punchestown Festival on Tuesday.
“He had a pin inserted five weeks ago and when he fell yesterday he bent the pin quite badly, about a 90 degree bend, so he’s seeing the specialist, Tadgh O’Sullivan, today,” said Irish Turf Club’s chief medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick.
“Depending on Mr O’Sullivan’s advice, he may take him to theatre this evening and replace it. We will just be guided what he says, but looking at the X-rays it appears to have a nasty bend on it.”
