Taylor retains World Boxing Championship title

Tributes are being paid this morning to Irish boxer Katie Taylor who won her third successive World Boxing Championship title last night.

The Bray fighter beat Cheng Dong of China by 18 points to five in Barbados to claim the gold medal.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen says Katie's latest victory is a fantastic achievement by one of Ireland's greatest athletes, while President Mary McAleese has described her win as a remarkable sporting feat.

Minister for Sport Mary Hanafin has also extended her congratulations, saying the victory is yet another great moment in Irish sport.
