St Pat's victory secures place in Europa League

Shamrock Rovers 1 St Patrick's Athletic 3

Californian Ryan Guy scored a second half hat-trick as St. Pat's turned this game on its head to seal their place in next season's new Europa League.

Rovers were well up for it under caretaker boss Jim Crawford and, having survived Barry Murphy making a decent save from Mark Quigley, took a deserved lead on 20 minutes.

Sean O'Connor and Padraig Amond were involved before John Martin's low shot was deflected into the net by Saints' right-back Damian Lynch.

Saints levelled on 48 minutes when a long ball deflected off a defender to Guy who blasted a low shot to the net from 20 yards.

Guy put Saints in front on 72 minutes when drilling past Murphy from Gary Dempsey's pass.

The hat-trick arrived six minutes later. Keith Fahey dinked the ball to the back post and Guy headed home.
