Someone fooled West Ham chairman David Gold into thinking Will from The Inbetweeners is a real person

Nothing sums up the sheer awkwardness of navigating school better than The Inbetweeners.

Unfortunately, West Ham United chairman David Gold isn’t as familiar with the show as us, leading to some good-natured Twitter trolling.

So what happened? Well, a West Ham fan tweeted Gold, asking for for a retweet as his brother had just started a new school. Sweet, right? Gold kindly retweeted, wishing him all the best.

However here’s the awkward bit: the boy in the picture isn’t this Twitter user’s brother but rather Will from The Inbetweeners. We’d recognise that briefcase from anywhere.

And as you can imagine, people are finding the whole mix-up side-splittingly funny.

Inevitably, Inbetweeners gags made an appearance.

The internet was clapping in utter glee.

One twitter user did make the completely valid point that even though Gold might not be fully clued up in some areas of popular culture, he was still being a good guy by retweeting.

The one question we do have to ask is: who on Earth starts school in December? But perhaps it’s best to leave that one.
