Sides level at the break in Carling Cup final

Aston Villa 1 Manchester United 1

Michael Owen responded to being given a rare start in place of Wayne Rooney by putting Manchester United on level terms – before going off injured - in the Carling Cup final with Aston Villa.

Owen, appearing in his first Wembley final, struck after 12 minutes after good play by Dimitar Berbatov but limped off to be replaced by Rooney just before half-time.

James Milner had put Villa ahead from the penalty spot in the fourth minute after Gabriel Agbonlahor had been brought down by last man Nemanja Vidic.
